Hélène Cardona

HÉLÈNE CARDONA was born in Paris & raised all over Europe. She holds French, Spanish & US citizenships. Her recent books include Birnam Wood (her translation of her father José Manuel Cardona), Life in Suspension, and Dreaming My Animal Selves (all Salmon Poetry); Beyond Elsewhere (White Pine Press), her translation of Gabriel Arnou-Laujeac; and Ce que nous portons (Éditions du Cygne), her translation of Dorianne Laux. She co-translated Walt Whitman’s Civil War Writings for the Iowa International Writing Program’s WhitmanWeb. A Romanian translation of Dreaming My Animal Selves was published by Junimea Editions in 2016. 

Hélène is the recipient of over 20 honours and awards and her work has been translated into 16 languages.
      
She wrote her thesis on Henry James for her MA in American Literature from the Sorbonne, taught at Hamilton College and Loyola Marymount University, worked as a translator for the Canadian Embassy in Paris, and received fellowships from the Goethe-Institut and Universidad Internacional de Andalucía.
       
Publications include Washington Square Review, World Literature Today, Poetry International, Dublin Review of Books, The London Magazine, Asymptote, AGNI, Irish Literary Times, Agenda Poetry, Hayden’s Ferry Review, Colorado Review, The Brooklyn Rail, The Warwick Review, Waxwing, The Los Angeles Review and elsewhere.
      
Hélène had roles in Chocolat, Indiana Jones 5, Red Notice, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Jurassic World, The Hundred-Foot Journey, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Muppets Most Wanted, Happy Feet 2, and Mumford, among many. For Serendipity she co-wrote with director Peter Chelsom and composer Alan Silvestri the song Lucienne, which she also sang.
